Britcar update: Midnight - 10:00am
Posted 20th September 2008 by David Cooke
'The Tour' returned to the track this morning a little worse for wear, but ready for whatever the remaining hours of Britcar has to bring.
The lead has changed several times during the night and when we left you, Strakka Racing having taken the lead when the Paragon Porsche was pulled back into the garage for repairs. The lead car was looking very strong until shortly after 1.30am, when Allan Simonsen reported gearbox trouble less than half an hour into his stint. The BMW dropped down the order whilst the gearbox was replaced and they now find themselves in 11th and 21 laps down on the leader. Even though a win is far from possible, they are still looking for a top ten finish overall. When we entered the track this morning, the No 29 Topcat Racing Marcos Mantis was leading overall but either a broken gearbox or drive shaft has ended their hopes of victory - with just under 5 hours to go the car has only just arrived back in the pits after being stuck out on track for over half an hour. The No 6 Paragon Porsche has finally retained the lead again 12 hours after losing it, due to the earlier mentioned problems.
Also an update on the No 7 TVR driver Richard Stanton who was involved in the huge start line crash remains in hospital. His condition is stable though he is being kept under sedation for futher checks to his head and back.
